Over 21 years ago. That was the last time I was given a box of chocolates. Changing your life to accommodate life-threatening allergies takes up so much of your time and energy that you don’t realise the little things – like not receiving flowers or chocolates anymore.
A few weeks ago, my daughter came home with this beautiful box of gluten-free and dairy-free chocolates! She had been interviewing a team at All Souls College about their homemade cleaning products and she mentioned my health. They took her on a short tour of the college grounds and just before she left they handed her this box – for me!! I was so touched, there were people I’ve never met but they were so sympathetic to my situation that they wanted to send a small gift.
They’re a mix of raspberry and orange flavoured chocolate set in a case made of rolled oats.
Such a small gesture made me feel so special.
We often forget that people living with allergies have to deal with them every single day. We don’t get a day off. So when a total stranger can recognise that and act in kindness it reminds us that there are considerate people out there.
